We’re serious about business.
The Chicagoland Express Network is a streamlined membership option offered by the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) to meet the needs of today's busy professionals. The mission of ABWA is to bring together women (and men) of diverse backgrounds and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking, support and national recognition. Express Network meeting formats allow professional women to focus on networking opportunities and education.
The Chicagoland Express Network was installed in September 2001 with 57 charter members--one of the largest installations--and it's growing quickly. We invite you to join us as a guest at our next meeting and see for yourself the power of networking.
ABWA Facts and History
American Business Women's Association (ABWA) was founded in Kansas City, Missouri in 1949 by a man. Believe it or not, it's true ... This gentleman's name was Mr. Hillary Bufton. He saw men coming home from World War II, and taking back their jobs. This caused a lot of concern for the women who had these positions while their husbands were at war. Because some women had lost their husbands in the war, they needed their job to feed their family ... while others found that they simply preferred to work rather than be a homemaker. Whatever the reason, Mr. Bufton saw the men resume their jobs and receive the support of the many fraternal organizations that were available to men only. He felt the working woman needed an organization that addressed the needs of working women, and yet cut across all occupations.
